HyKat SMF-50 iron-molhbdenum catalyst is specially designed for producing formaldehyde by methanol oxidation which is composed by oxides of molybdenum and iron as the active components.
Formaldehyde is produced by catalytic oxidation of methanol. The most commonly used catalysts are silver metal or a mixture of an iron oxide with molybdenum and/or vanadium. Recently Formox process is commonly used by using iron oxide and molybdenum, methanol and oxygen react at 300-400 deg C to produce formaldehyde according to the chemical equation:
CH3OH + 1/2 O2 → H2CO + H2O.
HyKat SMF-50 catalyst has been developed to give increasing activity, selectivity and stability.
